About Elma

The Town of Elma was incorporated in April of 1857 being split from the Towns of Aurora and Lancaster. Encompassing 36 square miles with two major waterways, Buffalo Creek and Cazenovia Creek, Elma sits squarely in the center of Erie County and can safely call itself the “heart” of Erie County. Over 11,304 residents call the Town home. So does Iroquois Central School, one of Western New York’s top rated school systems, and Elma Meadows Golf Course, one of Erie County’s top public courses. Residents also enjoy 2 parks, Elma Village Green and Creek Road Park and Athletic Fields, a well used Senior Center, Town Museum, and Public Library. A new Town Hall is also under construction.

Elma has a vibrant business community anchored by large firms like Moog Valve, Motorola, Steuben Foods, and Servotronics. It’s heart is a retail plaza in the center of Town, several restaurants scattered throughout the Town, and many small businesses that provide residents with a multitude of services.

While farming has been the backbone of agriculture, horse farms are becoming more prevalent. Elma is also home to the largest llama farm in Western New York. Nurseries and greenhouse operations also provide great greenery and color, they also provide the stock for several larger nurseries in the area.

There is a wealth of treasures in Elma, some historic, some educational, and others just plain fun. If you take the time to learn more about Elma, you will find out why Elma is such a great place to live and raise a family.
